A native of East Tennessee, Mark has over 25 years of forest management experience working with forest industry in Virginia, and the Tennessee Division of Forestry.

Mark is part of the NatureVest Impact Management team. The team is working towards the following key objectives:

  • Establishing minimum standards for investments to avoid negative environmental impacts
  • Identifying opportunities for investments to deliver impact alongside returns
  • Advising on best practices for land and water management
  • Measuring climate and biodiversity outcomes
  • Mark is currently focused on the following:

  • Managing forestry and land management programs to accomplish appropriate levels of timber harvesting to meet projected cash flows of the Cumberland Forest investment model.
  • Ensuring the Cumberland Forest meets or exceeds third-party Forest Stewardship Council® certification criteria each year.
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners on projects to improve elk habitat, forest connectivity, and resiliency on the Cumberland Forest.
  • While in college, Mark worked at a residential high school for the deaf, and had the opportunity to tutor the American citizenship exam to an international exchange student from China.
