Biography

Dr. Catherine Burns is The Nature Conservancy’s conservation director and technical advisory committee chair for the Sustainable Water Impact Fund (SWIF). Cat joined TNC in 2010 and prior to her work on the SWIF served as the Associate Director of TNC California’s Water Program, leading a team focused on enhancing instream flows and wetland habitat throughout California. Cat also previously served as the Director of Science for TNC’s North Carolina chapter, with a focus on developing freshwater conservation science to inform conservation efforts across the southeast United States. Cat has extensive international conservation experience including work in Australia, Africa and Central America and earned her Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology in 2004 from Yale University.
