Biography

David Schnake is the Natural Climate Solutions Forester for NatureVest's Impact Management team. His work focuses on developing forest management plans, forest carbon projects, conservation easement sales, and other tools and methods to enhance forest carbon sequestration, forest restoration, and long-term forest protection.

David is part of the NatureVest Impact Management team. The team is working towards the following key objectives:

  • Establishing minimum standards for investments to avoid negative environmental impacts
  • Identifying opportunities for investments to deliver impact alongside returns
  • Advising on best practices for land and water management
  • Measuring climate and biodiversity outcomes

    • David Joined TNC in 2021 after over a decade of managing the State of North Carolina’s system of Research Station forests. He has also been an instructor of forest biometrics, silviculture, and forest management and planning at North Carolina State University. 

    David spends his free time playing ice hockey, fishing, hiking, and biking. His favorite place to escape to is the Selkirk Mountains in North Idaho and Northeast Washington.

    David has authored and co-authored research in journals including Sustainability, Applied Vegetation Science, Forest Science, Restoration Ecology, Agricultural Research and Technology, and in several Proceedings of the Biennial Southern Silviculture Research Conference.
