Take a few minutes to watch a video and learn about one of the many projects we're working on!

Good Fire: Restoring New Mexico’s Forests (4:19) Decades of fire suppression have caused wildfires to become more severe, but prescribed fire turns a fire of “chance” into a fire of “choice.” Through partnership and collaboration, The Nature Conservancy is bringing back fire to protect forests and communities.
Wild & Free—Saving the Gila River (6:25) New Mexico's Gila River is one of the last free-flowing rivers in the southwest United States, attracting magnificent wildlife to its waters. See why and how groups like The Nature Conservancy are working with partners to keep this river wild and free.
A Win-Win-Win for the Colorado River (3:54) In January 2022, The Jicarilla Apache Nation, the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (ISC) and The Nature Conservancy signed a first-of-its-kind agreement that allows the ISC to lease up to 20,000 acre feet of water per year from the Nation to benefit endangered fish & increase water security.
Preserving Wildlife of the CO River Basin (7:57) From amazing mammals to migratory birds to fish species found nowhere else on Earth, the vast array of wildlife in the Colorado River Basin represents the wonders of the West. To sustain this river in the face of climate change, we must find solutions that work for both people and wildlife.
Better Left Wild (5:28) Bartlett Mesa is a 2,200-acre ranch in Raton, New Mexico, that was acquired by The Nature Conservancy in conjunction with Trust for Public Land in order to be transferred to the state of New Mexico.
Connecting the Big Wide Open (3:05) A roughly 71-million-acre region spanning Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, known as the Southern High Plains, remains one of North America's largest intact and connected grassland landscapes. TNC is working to protect habitat across this area so its unique ecosystem can thrive.
Stories from the Southern High Plains (18:39) Grasslands and prairies are the world’s most altered and imperiled major habitat, but less than 10% of these lands are protected globally. A roughly 71-million-acre target region remains as one of the largest intact and connected grassland landscapes in North America.
