States are Essential in Reducing Pollution and Expanding the Clean Energy Economy

The following is a statement by Jason Albritton, North America Climate Mitigation Program Director at The Nature Conservancy, reaffirming the role of states in creating and implementing state climate and energy policies:

“The Nature Conservancy, which has worked with states across the country to create and implement policies and projects to reduce pollution and protect nature, strongly supports states’ essential role in providing clean air and water and expanding the clean energy economy.

"States have led the charge on climate action. For example, between 2005 and 2022, states in the United States Climate Alliance reduced their net greenhouse gas emissions by 19 percent, while increasing collective GDP by 30 percent. This is proof that reducing pollution and growing the economy go hand in hand. Keeping existing state clean energy laws in place, while simultaneously strengthening them or passing additional policies, will help diversify the country’s sources of energy, create jobs, provide clean air and water and protect nature.

"We know we need to grow and diversify our energy sources in the U.S., and we hope the federal government will encourage—not hinder—states' ability to advance solutions that provide clean, reliable and affordable energy, reduce pollution and make our economy stronger.”
