The Nature Conservancy Temporarily Closes Santa Fe Canyon Preserve Due to Increased Wildlife Activity

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in New Mexico is temporarily closing Santa Fe Canyon Preserve (SFCP) due to increased wildlife activity in and around the preserve.
“This has been a challenging summer for wildlife across New Mexico,” said Terry Sullivan, the state director for TNC in New Mexico. “Many species are experiencing environmental stress and moving across larger areas in search of food and water.”
While wildlife encounters are uncommon, current conditions have increased the potential for human-wildlife interactions. The temporary closure is intended to protect both visitors and wildlife.
Visitor safety and the well-being of wildlife are top priorities for The Nature Conservancy. The organization will continue to monitor conditions and share updates on the preserve's visitation status as more information becomes available.
