In response to the 2024 elections, The Nature Conservancy in Indiana released this statement from Larry Clemens, its state director.

After a long campaign and election process new leaders will take the reins when the new year begins, and The Nature Conservancy in Indiana (TNC) will continue to advocate for legislation and policies that make nature available to all Hoosiers.

Nature has a unique ability to bring people together. In 2019 the Trump administration worked with a bipartisan coalition in Congress to enact full funding of $900 million annually for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. TNC worked with the administration and members of Congress to understand how this money would be used across the United States to improve conservation.

In 2022, TNC worked with the Biden administration and a bipartisan congressional coalition to include billions of dollars to fund conservation and climate mitigation.

TNC worked very closely with Gov. Holcomb’s administration and the state legislature to fund Clean Water Indiana and put funding back into the Pres. Benjamin Harrison Conservation Trust.

State Director, The Nature Conservancy in Indiana

Over the last few years, the U.S. government and Indiana has made encouraging advances in creating policies that benefit nature and people. This needs to continue—and grow—to meet the enormity of these challenges.

With its practical, nonpartisan approach, TNC has a long history with all levels of government in Indiana to drive tangible environmental progress. TNC works with legislators and government officials who support conservation, whether it’s helping to formulate much needed water policy, secure funds to protect additional land or expand regenerative agriculture practices that help and fund farmers ability to continue to be great stewards of the land.

Nature unites us, and TNC will do everything it can to ensure conservation is a bridge to prosperity in Indiana and across the country.
