(Boise, ID) June 30, 2025— The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is excited to welcome Jared Talley as our new Idaho State Policy Advisor. In this newly established role, he will lead efforts to advance TNC’s conservation goals in Idaho through policy engagement, advocacy and strategic partnerships across the state. While TNC has long collaborated with Idaho policymakers, this position marks a step forward by allowing for a full-time, focused approach to strengthening our statewide policy program.

Jared brings a deep passion for Idaho’s landscapes and a strong background in environmental policy. Before joining TNC, he served as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies in the School of Public Service at Boise State. His research and teaching focused on environmental governance in the Intermountain West, including regenerative grazing, salmon recovery, post-fire restoration policy and collaborative conservation.
A fifth-generation Idahoan, Jared is deeply connected to the land and communities of this state. He has dedicated his career to advancing the wise use of Idaho’s natural resources while supporting conservation efforts that benefit both people and place. He is committed to working with a broad network of policymakers, communities and conservation professionals to shape policy that promotes the stewardship and sustainability of Idaho’s landscapes.
“Everyone who knows me knows I’m place-based,” Jared says. “Idaho isn’t just the backdrop of my life—it’s part of who I am. Doing my part to help steward and conserve these landscapes isn’t just a professional responsibility. It’s personal. It’s about self-sustainability as much as environmental sustainability.”
Quote: Jared Talley
Idaho isn’t just the backdrop of my life—it’s part of who I am. Doing my part to help steward and conserve these landscapes isn’t just a professional responsibility. It’s personal.
Jared was drawn to TNC because of its reputation as a trusted, respectful partner in achieving conservation outcomes. “I’ve worked with TNC across the West,” he says, “and I’ve always been impressed by the scope of its work, the roles staff play in their communities, and the sheer professionalism and compassion they bring to both the land and the people who depend on it. I’m honored to join this team and contribute however I can.”
With his deep roots in Idaho, expertise in environmental policy and strong relationships across the state’s conservation and leadership communities, Jared is a welcome and timely addition to TNC.
“To care for Idaho is to conserve Idaho,” Jared says, “These landscapes raised me—now I’m returning the favor. It’s as simple as that.”
