The Nature Conservancy in Arizona (TNC Arizona) and Arizona Highways are inviting Arizona students aged 13-18 to submit their best nature photography for the 2026 “Adventures in Nature" student photo contest.

The first-place winner will receive $5,000. Second place will receive $2,500 and third place will receive $1,000. Seven honorable mentions will receive $250 each, for a total of over $10,000 in prizes. Since 2016, the contest has awarded $90,000 in cash prizes for exceptional photography.

“The best conservationists are those who have a personal connection with the natural world,” said Daniel Stellar, the state director of TNC Arizona. “This photo contest encourages students to get outside and explore the wonderful and wild landscapes of Arizona, inspiring them to become champions for nature.”

Whether it’s a close-up of an insect, a shot of a vast desert landscape, or an action-packed scene of wildlife in motion, judges are looking for photos that are artistically creative and evoke emotion.

“For more than a century, Arizona Highways has showcased the beauty of our state through photography,” said Robert Stieve, editor of Arizona Highways. “As a founding partner of this photo contest, we’re proud to support not only the next generation of environmental stewards, but also the emerging artists who will continue telling Arizona’s story through the power of photography.”

The photo contest judges bring a wealth of experience and expertise. Acclaimed professional photographers Suzanne Mathia and Mark Skalny will serve on the panel, joined by Jeff Kida, photo editor of Arizona Highways, who will lend his seasoned eye in selecting this year’s winners.

Submissions are open from March 1 to March 31, and winners will be announced during a virtual award ceremony on April 16.
