Volunteer Overview

Join TNC's Jesse Moore and Peter Bauson at Big Walnut Nature Preserve in Putnam County on Saturday, September 27 for a Weed Wrangle! We'll be removing the invasive bush honeysuckle.

Invasive species pose a significant threat to this ecosystem and many other natural areas in Indiana. Out-competing native species, invasives reduce biodiversity and cause habitat loss for Indiana’s native insects, birds, and other animals. Come be a part of the solution at this family-friendly Weed Wrangle.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, as this is a great service activity for Scouts and kids wanting to give back to their local natural areas.

  • No experience needed.
  • All tools and instructions are provided.
  • The terrain here is easy-to-moderate and we will be off trail for most of the workday.
  • Volunteers should be comfortable with moderate to strenuous physical activity, including bending, cutting, and hauling.
  • Please come prepared with drinking water, closed-toed shoes, and weather-appropriate layers.
