Opening in Spring 2026!

A new accessible trail is currently under construction in the Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area. This three-quarter-mile pathway—with wide, gentle slopes and a crushed-dust surface—will offer a looped journey designed for families and people across the mobility spectrum. Located three miles down the Hurd Pond Road from Abol Bridge, the trail will provide natural sights, sounds and tactile opportunities for visitors of all ages. Visual highlights include wonderful views of Pockwockamus Falls on the West Branch of the Penobscot River, and Katahdin looming above the landscape.

We are working with the Penobscot Nation to create interpretive panels, sculpture features and an app-based audio tour to center the voices and perspectives of the people who have been in relationship with this landscape since time immemorial.

Accessible parking and toilets will be available at the trail head.

Look for more information about the trail’s grand opening in Spring 2026!
