Event Overview

We host seasonal hiking days at the Dye Creek Preserve each spring and fall. The recent Park Fire has altered this landscape, offering visitors a rare chance to experience the preserve in a unique post-fire setting.

Our hiking dates for fall 2025 are Saturday, November 22 and Saturday, December 6.

Registration is requiredsee below for details.

Canyon Trail

The self-paced hike format allows you to explore the canyon trail at your leisure. Along the way you can stop at information stations to connect with knowledgable Dye Creek Preserve docents. There are 4 start times to choose from with 20 spots each per self-paced hike day. Please note, all hikers should plan to be back at their cars by 2:00 PM.

Register for November 22 or December 6

The canyon trail is a beautiful yet rugged 2.5-mile-long (5-mile roundtrip) footpath. Visitors should be prepared for uneven footing, loose rocks, a few steep sections, a shallow creek crossing on stepping stones and tripping hazards.

Youth under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Access to the preserve for these free hike days is made possible by The Nature Conservancy through the support of volunteer docents and collaboration with the Resource Conservation District of Tehama County.

We encourage photography for personal use; commercial photography is not permitted.

All hikes at the preserve require advance registration. Registration is free, but space is limited!
