By 2030, our population will be above 12 million and we will be the seventh most populous state. Your support will help ensure that North Carolina is ready.
We have always been about more than land conservation. We've built oyster reefs. We've restored forests. We've led the way in coastal climate change research. Our ability to bring diverse groups together, providing leadership and scientific expertise, has advanced our conservation work into a number of new areas, including restoring natural water flows on the Roanoke River, bringing fire back to the Southern Appalachians, and developing a better understanding of freshwater resources across the state. It's time to do even more.
We have been in the silent phase of our $50 million Our World campaign since July 2013 and are proud to report that significant money has already been raised allowing us to hire a Water Program Director, an additional management position in the Coastal Plain and purchase key pieces of property.
Now, we come to to you, asking for your help. With this campaign, we will acquire important tracts of land that make vital connections in the areas where we work. But we'll go so much further - this campaign will help us secure the skilled people and essential resources we need to manage land at a manageable scale, advance critically needed science, effect important policy change, and inspire a new generation of conservationists.
