Amidst sparkling turquoise waters in the Eastern Caribbean, a string of islands boasts some of the most beautiful beaches and vibrant coral reef ecosystems. The Nature Conservancy has a strong presence in this region and is working with governments, local partners and communities to protect natural resources in Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines and Grenada.
The Conservancy is building a cohesive network across the region to protect their marine environments, while supporting the livelihoods of all those who rely on ocean. Through the “This is Who We Are” campaign, teams from each island are working to educate and raise awareness within their local communities about the importance of marine area management and sustainable use of resources. In addition, the Conservancy’s “At the Water’s Edge” project is working to empower communities to strengthen their coastlines and protect against the impacts of climate change by incorporating nature-based solutions, like planting and protecting mangroves.
By learning from each other and working together, this network of islands is taking strides towards a sustainable future for their oceans and coastlines.
