At The Nature Conservancy (TNC), we believe that when we work for nature, nature will work for us. Across the Caribbean, this vision is becoming reality thanks to the tireless efforts of our local teams and partners, the strength of our global organization, and the unwavering commitment of our Trustees. Today, I am honored to celebrate a milestone that embodies this spirit: the appointment of Adriana Cisneros to the Board of Trustees for TNC Caribbean.

Adriana joins us at a pivotal moment. The Caribbean is truly the Atlantic Ocean's Amazon: a region of extraordinary biodiversity and cultural richness found nowhere else on Earth. And it is also one of the world’s most vulnerable regions to biodiversity loss and climate impacts. From warming and rising seas that cause coral reef degradation to the economic fragility of small island nations, the challenges are real. But so is our resolve. With Adriana’s leadership, we gain not only a visionary entrepreneur but a deeply rooted advocate for sustainable development. Her work in Miches, Dominican Republic, through Fundación Tropicalia and the upcoming Four Seasons Tropicalia resort, exemplifies how business can be a force for good: driving inclusive growth, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.

Her voice on our Board will amplify our mission in powerful ways. Adriana understands that conservation is not just about protecting nature: it’s about protecting livelihoods, cultures, and futures. She brings a modern, regionally grounded perspective that aligns perfectly with TNC’s approach: combining global capabilities with local connection. This duality is our competitive advantage. As a global organization with 80+ years of experience and operations in over 70 countries, we’ve pioneered innovative financial mechanisms like debt conversions for marine conservation. In Barbados and The Bahamas, these tools have unlocked over $300 million for nature, enabling long-term protection of marine ecosystems and sustainable development for island communities. But our strength lies equally in our grassroots presence. With teams in 17 countries and territories across the Caribbean, we work hand-in-hand with policymakers, funders, and local leaders to make change happen. Our science-driven lens ensures that every dollar, every partnership, and every policy is grounded in evidence and impact. Trustees like Adriana are essential to this model. They are not only ambassadors of our mission: they are catalysts for innovation, collaboration, and scale. Their networks open doors. Their insights shape strategy. Their commitment fuels momentum.

Quote: Rob Brumbaugh (about Adriana Cisneros)

Her words—“The hour to act is now, and together we can make a difference”—echo the ethos of our global campaign: Together, We Find a Way. This is more than a slogan. It’s a promise.

Executive Director, Caribbean, The Nature Conservancy

At the recent 2025 Conservation Summit, Adriana called on the private sector to unite in building a sustainable future. Her words—“The hour to act is now, and together we can make a difference”—echo the ethos of our global campaign: Together, We Find a Way. This is more than a slogan. It’s a promise. A promise to the coral reefs of the Mesoamerican Barrier, to the mangroves of Cuba, to the fisheries of the Eastern Caribbean, and to the communities that depend on them. It’s a promise to future generations that we will not stand idle.

As we look ahead to 2030 and beyond, I am filled with gratitude; for our partners, our teams, and our Trustees. With Adriana Cisneros on board, we are better positioned than ever to deliver bold, science-based solutions that protect nature and uplift people.

Welcome, Adriana. Your leadership inspires us. Your commitment strengthens us. And your vision helps us find the way—together.
