Vermont
Enjoy an idyllic New Autumn amongst stunning forests and visit Lake Champlain.
September 22-27, 2027
Vermont—where there are more trees than people (nearly 80% of the state is forested)—is the perfect destination for conservation-minded explorers. We will spend the week leaf-peeping, taking in the brilliant foliage that makes New England so special in the fall. These forest resources are also key to safeguarding biodiversity and the quality of the region’s freshwater lakes, rivers and streams, and they support an entrepreneurial ecosystem of local farms, maple syrup producers and artisans that forms the backbone of the Green Mountain State’s small-business-fueled economy. During this journey, we will also enjoy the region’s breathtaking autumn scenery at Lake Champlain and Mount Mansfield and learn about The Nature Conservancy’s efforts to protect this iconic landscape.
Highlights
- Take in stunning panoramic views of Caspian Lake and the nearby mountains from TNC’s Barr Hill Natural Area.
- Explore a “living laboratory” of American elms as you learn about TNC’s partnership with the USDA Forest Service to develop a population of elms resistant to Dutch elm disease.
- Step aboard a boat to learn about TNC’s aquatic work in the region’s largest body of water, Lake Champlain, also known as the “Sixth Great Lake.”
