Volunteer Overview

With many preserves to manage throughout Michigan, it is not always possible for the staff of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to visit each preserve as often as we would like. This is why it is vital to have a community of volunteers dedicated to our preserves to help us maintain, monitor and facilitate communication between visitors, the community and TNC preserve management staff.

TNC is dedicated to providing authentic and inspiring examples of natural Michigan habitats, and maintaining our public-access preserves is one of the best ways to accomplish this goal!

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in the management of nature preserves and commitment to the mission of The Nature Conservancy.

  • Knowledge of the preserve and surrounding community.

  • Excellent communication between community members and TNC staff.

  • Willingness to participate in training sessions, hikes and  preserve volunteer program gatherings.

  • Lives within close proximity to a TNC preserve (within 30 min.) and can visit regularly (at a minimum, once per month).

Learn more about the program here. If you are interested in contributing your time and skills, please contact the Engagement and outreach program to receive further application information by emailing miplaces@tnc.org
