Overview
Come celebrate Missouri’s incredible grassland heritage at Prairie Day, a free, family-friendly event happening Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the beautiful Dunn Ranch Prairie in Harrison County. It’s a day full of nature, discovery, and fun for all ages!
Start your morning with a peaceful birding hike at nearby Pawnee Prairie from 7 to 9 a.m., then head over to Dunn Ranch for a full day of prairie adventures. Hop on a wagon tour to see the iconic bison herd up close, join guided prairie walks, and explore hands-on activities that highlight the beauty and importance of Missouri’s native grasslands.
You’ll learn how to support pollinators like butterflies and bees in your own backyard, and discover how native grasses can benefit both wildlife and cattle operations. Experts from the Missouri Department of Conservation will be there to share insights on conservation ranching and sustainable land use.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a curious kid, or just looking for a great way to spend a Saturday, there’s something here for everyone.
No registration is needed. Just bring your curiosity, your camera, and maybe a pair of binoculars. Lunch concessions will be available, and the event is hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation and The Nature Conservancy.
Join us at Dunn Ranch Prairie (16970 W. 150th St., Hatfield, MO) and experience the wild, wonderful world of Missouri’s prairies!
