What is a Bioblitz?
A bioblitz is a communal effort to record as many species as possible within a designated location and time period.
What is the City Nature Challenge?
The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document wild plants and animals in metropolitan areas around the world. It’s a friendly competition to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species and who can engage the most people. For more information about the Front Range effort, visit https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2026-colorado-front-range.
We will meet at the informational signage to get a brief introduction to iNaturalist and Seek (free apps that will help us engage in citizen science). Then we will explore the trails for about 1.5 hours before meeting back at the trailhead to wrap up and answer questions. You may walk with the group or explore on your own.
Planning Tips:
- Dress to be outdoors and appropriate for current weather conditions.
- Close-toed shoes and long pants are recommended.
- Don’t forget sunscreen!
- Bring a refillable water bottle.
- Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
- Please download the iNaturalist app (better for adults) or Seek app (better for kids under 13) and set up a user account before you arrive.
