Biography
Matt Bain is The Nature Conservancy in Kansas’ Director of Conservation. He brings over 20 years of experience implementing voluntary conservation, relationship building, program development, and fundraising to the role. In recent years, he has supported TNC’s work in western Kansas as the Southern High Plains Grassland Project Manager. With partners and the SHPI team, Matt has led the development of the Generational Grasslands program in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. Matt holds a master’s degree in biology from Ft. Hays State University, where he researched prairie chicken ecology.
In addition to working on the family farms, he served as a District Wildlife Biologist for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks before joining The Nature Conservancy in 2012. Matt and his wife, Shelby, spend most of their free time keeping up with their four kids, ages 9 through 18, hunting, fishing, and adventuring every chance they get.
