Biography

Liz Forsburg Pardi is The Nature Conservancy's California Policy Director overseeing policy engagements and directing strategies on public policy, legislation and funding issues. She joined TNC in 2005, leading the organization’s outreach on forest and agricultural policy in Washington, D.C. She brings more than 18 years of experience advancing policy change as well as extensive leadership on public funding and conservation ballot initiatives. Liz was appointed by Governor Newsom to the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection in 2021. Before coming to TNC, she held positions at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Congressional Budget Office. Liz completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, focused on natural resource economics and policy.

Nature-Based Solutions

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) applauds Governor Gavin Newsom’s May Revise for supporting nature-based climate investments in California through both the general fund and a mission-critical climate bond.

With the cost of climate change in our state estimated to reach $113 billion annually by 2050, we simply can’t afford to keep cleaning up one disaster after the next. Nature is capable of achieving one-third of the global greenhouse gas reductions needed to make our climate safer, but if we don’t invest in it, it can’t help us.

As the Administration and Legislature work to reach consensus on the climate bond, it is critical that they commit to a $15 billion investment in order to put California on a path to climate resilience and provide sufficient funding for key climate mitigation strategies, including nature-based climate solutions.  

We appreciate the Administration for recognizing the critical role that nature-based solutions must play in protecting California from climate impacts. TNC looks forward to continuing to work with the Administration and Legislature to develop a climate investment plan that will support nature-based solutions and help secure a more sustainable future for people and nature. A well-funded climate bond is our best path to climate resilience.

Sen. Allen Climate Leadership

February 17, 2023

California’s recent string of atmospheric river events, and the $1 billion in damages they brought, are just the latest evidence that we are failing to protect California from the accelerating impacts of climate change. We applaud Senator Ben Allen for introducing SB 867, which will provide a structured investment plan to address the challenges of climate change and lock down stable, long-term funding for nature-based climate solutions to protect our planet before it’s too late.
