Biography

Leslie Pond serves as the Policy and Partnerships Volunteer for The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts. She began her work with TNC in 2019, initially developing an information sheet on the nexus of climate and health. She later worked as a contractor to produce a report on green infrastructure and workforce development. More recently, she created a solar siting fact sheet, prepared federal appropriations requests and collaborated with a team to advance climate‑funding legislation.

Before shifting to environmental and climate-focused work, Leslie led the global Postdoctoral Program and was a member of the Academic Relations team at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research. Her earlier roles include serving as a Scientific Editor at Virtual Text/Jones and Bartlett Publishers—where she contributed to online textbooks and the cell biology textbook CELLS—and as a Senior Editor at Cell Press for the journals Cell and Molecular Cell.

Leslie earned her PhD in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed postdoctoral research at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, and at the University of Dundee in Scotland. She holds B.A. degrees in Chemistry and Chinese Studies from the University of California, San Diego.

Originally from Los Angeles, Leslie greatly appreciates the walkability, green spaces and civic engagement of Boston’s neighborhoods. She gets out and about for street and nature photography as often as possible and enjoys the invigorating and restorative qualities of yoga practice. From 2022 to 2025, Leslie volunteered as a writer, photographer and board member for The Fenway News.
