Larry began working for The Nature Conservancy in 1997 and currently serves as the Interim Chief Information Officer. Upon joining the Nature Conservancy as a Senior Wide Area Network Engineer, Larry worked to establish a corporate network infrastructure capable of allowing TNC offices access to the internet and to internal business systems. As the demand for telecommunications services grew, Larry was promoted to Manager of Global Network Operations and assembled a team of engineers and admins to manage the Conservancy’s growing network demand. In 2019, Larry was appointed Sr. IT Director of Infrastructure, Operations and Security. In this role, he leads teams responsible for platform infrastructure, enterprise networking, enterprise systems, enterprise production operations and security. His teams also produce policies, standards and procedures to ensure compliance of initiatives with architecture and security goals; and manages network and telecommunication services worldwide.
In 2017, as a member of the LEAD ERG, Larry received the Conservation Operations Diversity & Inclusion Award. Larry has served the League of Employees of African Descent ERG as both steering committee member and co-lead. This work has been life changing and extremely impactful.
Prior to joining the Conservancy, Larry was a US government consultant and employee. He assisted in the development and implementation of cutting-edge IT infrastructure and security systems, as well as data and voice communication services. In 1991, Larry was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Congress of the United States, while working for the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA); and as a private contractor for the National Archives, was awarded the 1997 Company Award for Technical Excellence. While working for the United States Congress, Larry served on the following committees:
- Member of U.S. Legislative Branch Telecommunications Network Standards Committee, formed to develop the architecture for a high-capacity data network (FIBER) linking all legislative branch offices.
- Member of U.S. Legislative Branch Steering Committee, formed to oversee the efforts of a special staff designated to monitor the network.
- Member of U.S. Legislative Branch Electronic Typesetting Committee.
Larry holds a Master of Communications Certification from the American Institute of Technology. He is LAN to WAN, TCPIP and FDDI certified. While attending the Computer Institute he acquired additional technical training in the areas of advanced Basic and Cobol programming, Systems Analysis and Design and Advance Networking. (1975-1980) Bowie State College Major: Music and Psychology.
Larry loves being outdoors and especially enjoys landscaping his yard and playing golf. An avid musician, he loves to create and record music in his basement studio. Larry resides in Maryland with his wife and has two adult children.
