Biography

Kameran Onley is the Managing Director of North America Policy and Government Relations. In this role, she oversees the work TNC does to help create, implement and defend policies in the United States so people and nature thrive. This work includes policy, advocacy and communications. Onley also oversees the North America Climate Mitigation Program, which uses policy, partnerships, projects and research to accelerate the transition to clean energy and implement natural climate solutions.

Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy in 2010, Onley had various jobs in the private and public sectors, mainly advising on natural resource policy and management issues. In the public sector, she held several leadership positions at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where she provided policy development, management and oversight to some of the agency’s projects and programs. She also served as the principal advisor to the Interior Department Secretary and Deputy Secretary on significant environmental policy issues, such as Everglades restoration, western water issues and ocean and coastal matters. Furthermore, she was associate director for environmental policy at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. In the private sector, Onley was associate vice president with PBS&J, Inc., an environmental engineering firm focused on large-scale ecosystem restoration. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Seattle University and a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics from Clemson University.
