Biography
Johanna (Joni) Ward is the Global Director of the Conservation Impact System in the Chief Conservation Office of The Nature Conservancy. She has been in this role since 2020, where she leads the team that provides the tools and resources that help teams plan, measure and adapt their strategies to accelerate and maximize impact.
Prior to this position, Joni held multiple roles at TNC. She was the science and strategy director for the North America Region for eight years. Joni was also the science director—North America Region, deputy director—Central Science, and regional scientist—Rocky Mountain Region. Joni joined The Nature Conservancy in 2001 as the Wyoming science director and held that position for six years.
Joni received the One Conservancy award in 2017 for her leadership in advancing the organization’s updated conservation approach. Prior to joining TNC, Joni worked in environmental consulting and for the U.S. Forest Service. She holds a Ph.D. in ecology from Utah State University, was born and raised in Colorado and currently resides in Boulder.
