Biography
Jennifer Kilpela serves as the Interim Chief Investment Officer at The Nature Conservancy. In this role, Ms. Kilpela provides leadership to the Office of Investments at TNC in managing the $4 billion portfolio at TNC.
Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy, Ms. Kilpela was a Managing Director, partner, and consultant at Monticello Associates, a large institutional investment consulting firm. At Monticello she was responsible for partnering with non-profit and high net worth clients to recommend investment policies, asset allocation, and investment positioning. Ms. Kilpela also served as a Senior Investment Analyst at the George Washington University Investment Office where she conducted due diligence on a range of various investment strategies and investment managers. Earlier in her career, Ms. Kilpela was a Marketable Alternatives analyst at UTIMCO (The University of Texas Investment Management Company), covering the growing hedge fund portfolio of the endowment. She began her career as an investment banking analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston.
In addition to Ms. Kilpela’s professional career, she has also spent time volunteering for numerous boards and investment committees and teaching a sustainable finance class at the University of Colorado. Most recently, she serves as a board member and chairperson of the investment committee for The Denver Foundation, a large community foundation based in the Denver area.
Ms. Kilpela attended The University of Texas at Austin where she graduated magna cum laude, earning her BBA with a major in finance and minor in mathematics. She also earned her MBA from the Darden School of Business at The University of Virginia, where she received a Faculty Award for Academic Excellence, which is awarded to the top 10% of the graduating class. Ms. Kilpela has also earned a certificate in Natural Resource Management and Sustainable Ecosystems from Harvard University Extension School and a certificate in Impact Measurement and Management for the SDGs from Duke University.
Ms. Kilpela is a CFA charterholder. In her free time, Ms. Kilpela enjoys taking advantage of the outdoors by hiking and cross-country skiing.
