Biography
Igor Vejnović serves as the Southeast Europe Program Director at The Nature Conservancy, where he oversees initiatives focused on nature-friendly renewable energy and freshwater ecosystem protection. Under his leadership, the team works with governments, NGOs, businesses and communities to identify suitable areas for renewable energy development. The program also includes the 'United for Rivers' initiative, which aims to protect 13 rivers spanning 400 km across five Western Balkan countries.
Igor has a strong connection to Southeast Europe. He was born in Bosnia-Herzegovina, raised in Serbia, and has been working across the region for the last 15 years in various civic initiatives. He holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Belgrade and is a curious generalist who enjoys collaborating with specialists to break down siloes and develop a broader perspective.
Previously, at the CEE Bankwatch Network, Igor was actively involved in the Blue Heart of Europe campaign. His work focused on monitoring hydropower projects, assessing their environmental and social impacts, and uncovering their financing sources.
