The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean now has its own flagship video series. The first episode of Caribbean Currents premiered on October 27, 2023, on TNC in the Caribbean’s YouTube channel and across social media.
Caribbean Currents was created by the Caribbean Marketing and Communications team to highlight and showcase the amazing conservation work of TNC in the Caribbean and its impact on stakeholders and beneficiaries. The program brings together TNC Caribbean staff, representatives of local communities, collaborating NGOs and other stakeholders to discuss pertinent topics in the Caribbean region and how we are working together to address them.
The first episode focused on the issue of coral bleaching in the Caribbean—the summer of 2023 was one of the hottest on record, and the region experienced one of its most severe bleaching spells. The program featured a panel of leading scientists: Dr. Elizabeth Shaver, coral conservation program manager; Dr. Aldo Croquer, marine program manager, Central Caribbean Program; and Jessica Ward, U.S. Virgin Island coral program director; as well as Yasmin Evangelista, who represented the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources in the Dominican Republic.
The next episode of Caribbean Currents is in production and will feature a discussion on sustainable fisheries in the Caribbean—stay tuned! Watch the first episode on coral bleaching now on our YouTube channel.
