Your Gift Can Create a Legacy for Africa’s Lands and Waters

Perhaps like you, Joe and Sally Martin* loved to visit Africa. Every few years they would head out to discover a different corner of the continent — the Serengeti, Table Mountain, Lake Victoria, or Cairo. They would return home to the often rainy and cold Pacific Northwest of the United States feeling rejuvenated by the new sights, sounds, tastes, and smells that they experienced.

At least that’s what we imagine. We never got to meet Joe and Sally while they were alive. But we now know about their love for Africa through an amazing surprise: a bequest to support TNC’s Africa Program.

A bequest is one way of ensuring the values you hold today – such as an Africa that is both wild and prosperous – live on after your lifetime.

We wish that we could have said “thank you” to the Martins, but we know they would be thrilled that their gift is being put to work right away to tackle Africa’s most pressing environmental challenges. Find out how easy it is to include TNC’s Africa Program in your estate plans and if you do, we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for considering a gift to TNC’s Africa Program. There are many ways to support your passion for Africa:

·       Make a one-time online donation. You can give to the Africa region, our African Elephant Initiative, or choose a specific country program to support from this drop-down menu.

·       Become a Conservation Champion with monthly giving. Monthly giving is the easiest, most effective way to support the Africa Program. Email africa@tnc.org to learn more.

·       Consider a gift of appreciated securities.  This can be a very tax-wise way of giving as you may be eligible to avoid any capital gains taxes on publicly traded securities.

·       Name TNC’s Africa Program in your estate plans. Here is sample language you can use:

“I/We would like to give (amount/percentage of estate) to The Nature Conservancy, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the District of Columbia, with principal business address of 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, Virginia 22203-1606 with preference that my/our gift be used to support The Nature Conservancy’s work in Africa (or other specific designation).”

Learn more about all the ways to give to The Nature Conservancy — including estate giving as well as gifts of assets other than cash — and how you can contact us to talk confidentially to a specialist who will help you meet your philanthropic and financial goals. Just be sure to specify “Africa Program” when you make your designation.
