The Nature Conservancy announced today that Frank Rijsberman has been appointed the organization’s new Global Head of Policy and Public Funding. In this role, he will lead TNC’s policy and public funding efforts, engaging with governments, corporate and community leaders, and influencing climate and conservation policy in the countries and territories in which TNC operates. He starts on November 4 and will be based in Brussels, Belgium.
"I am thrilled to welcome Frank to The Nature Conservancy!” said CEO Jennifer Morris. “His extensive background in shaping global policy and public funding will be a critical lever to help drive the transformational change needed in this critical decade for nature.”
Frank brings over 20 years of experience leading international organizations focused on sustainability and the climate crisis, along with extensive background in shaping global policy, mobilizing both public and private funding, and building strong relationships with governments. For the past eight years, he has served as the Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), headquartered in Seoul, Korea. Under his leadership, GGGI has become a critical partner for its 70+ Member States and partner countries, helping them develop and implement climate and sustainability plans and policies, and mobilizing over USD 10 billion for their implementation. Prior to GGGI, Frank led the CGIAR, the world’s agricultural research network, and the International Water Management Institute, a water policy research institute based in Sri Lanka. He also spent five years working with US philanthropic organizations, including Google.org and the Gates Foundation.
Frank began his career in the Netherlands, where he worked on complex policy issues related to water resource and coastal zone management, wetlands, sea level rise, climate change, and international development. He has advised numerous high-profile organizations, including the Dutch government, EU, OECD, United Nations, and World Bank, and bilateral development donors.
