Seed Sorting Volunteers (ongoing)
TNC Washington is seeking 2-4 volunteers to sign up for a 6-week session of weekly tree seed sorting at the Seattle Office.
Join TNC Washington for an ongoing volunteer opportunity to assist with a research project by sorting tiny tree seeds from TNC’s Ellsworth Preserve in southwestern Washington.
We are seeking 2-4 volunteers to sign up for a 6-week session of weekly seed sorting at the Seattle Office, from 10am-1pm on Tuesdays starting January 7 through February 11, 2025.
Volunteers will work to sort through bundles of leaf litter collected form Ellsworth Creek Preserve to identify and count tree seeds. These tree seeds are small and require significant attention to detail. This cozy indoor activity is a great way to help our science team understand how our preserve management impacts forest health and reproduction and will be a time for casual conversation with members of our staff and other volunteers.
Volunteers must be able to attend the first session on January 7th at 10am for a required training.
If you volunteer, we ask that you commit to attending at least 4 of the 6 scheduled dates.
Lunch, tea, and coffee will be provided.
All supplies and workspace will be provided.
Volunteers come with a willingness to learn. Volunteers do not need to be botanists or plant experts.
All sessions will take place at the TNC office in Seattle.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate.
If interested, please email wavolunteer@tnc.org describing why you’re interested, any relevant experience you have, and if the schedule for this role works for you.
