Volunteer Overview

At this year’s Willow Creek event, volunteers will help spread native seed into ecological burn units to restore and enhance critical habitat for Fender’s blue butterfly. During the event, volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the endangered Fender’s blue butterfly and TNC’s efforts to conserve the species at Willow Creek and elsewhere. Seeds will be broadcast by hand. This project will include walking up to a mile and a half along burn plots.

Willow Creek's native grasslands, ash woodlands, and ephemeral streams provide one of the best remaining examples of native wet prairie habitats in the southern Willamette Valley.

Please BRING: sturdy footwear; a daypack with water and lunch/snacks; layers of clothing, including long sleeves and pants (to protect from prickly plants); rain gear; a hat; and sunscreen. Bring work gloves if you have them; if not, you can borrow ours. Check the forecast ahead of time to prepare. Snacks and soft drinks will be provided at the event.
