Event Overview

Join us for a guided paddle on the waters in and around The Nature Conservancy's Mashomack Preserve. We may be taking a relaxing trip up Mashomack’s iconic Bass Creek, paddling to Log Cabin Creek to learn about shellfish with our partners from Cornell Cooperative Extension or paddling to Major’s Harbor to portage into Mashomack Creek.

Not all paddles are suitable for children.

Log Cabin Creek Shellfish Paddle

JULY 16 | 3-5 p.m.

What could be better than spending a summer afternoon paddling along a quiet coast? We will venture to Log Cabin Creek and learn about the importance of shellfish in our coastal waters with Kate Rossi-Snook of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Kayaks, paddles and safety gear provided. Adults only.

Bass Creek Kayak and Sandflat Exploration

August 18 | 4 - 6 p.m.

Explore Bass Creek by kayak as we paddle through the shallow waters of the tidal marsh, from the bay to the creek’s farthest reaches. Along the way, we’ll stop to explore wildlife on the sand flats and among the marsh grasses, both from our kayaks and on foot.

Using hand nets, participants will catch and examine a variety of aquatic species before safely returning them to the water. Discover the rich diversity of life that thrives in this dynamic coastal ecosystem.
