Explore Marathon Grasslands Preserve

The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) Marathon Grasslands Preserve, located in the northern part of the Marathon Basin region, represents some of the most diverse Chihuahuan Desert grassland habitat in Texas and supports a wide array of wildlife. Pronghorn, prairie dogs, American badgers, burrowing owls and golden eagles are just a few of the species that you might see during a tour day.

We are pleased to offer guided tours of our Marathon Grasslands Preserve, which include a presentation, short drive and wildlife viewing at the prairie dog town. You’ll learn about the history, TNC’s conservation work, the species we protect and more during this day tour.

Important info about the tours:

  • A high clearance vehicle is REQUIRED.
  • These tours consist of sitting, standing and a very small amount of walking on flat ground on the preserve.
  • Maximum participants: 30
  • A reservation is REQUIRED to attend. Registration links will be posted on this page about a month before each scheduled tour. Check back to secure your spot!
