Biography

Ruth Konia is the Country Director for the Papua New Guinea Program. In her current role, Ruth oversees the strategic direction, fundraising and multi-disciplinary teams for the Papua New Guinea Program. Ruth has a long career in conservation and development in Papua New Guinea, with years of experience working in both the private and NGO sector. She also has a strong and proven track record in community outreach, collaborative leadership, equity and policy codesign, working with all levels of local community, governments, industry, NGOs and multi-lateral agencies.

Ruth has been with The Nature Conservancy since 2011, leading communications for the entire program and the Mangoro Market Meri Program since its inception in 2017. With Mangoro Market Meri, she worked with women in mangrove communities, government and other partners to improve livelihoods and benefits through sustainable mangrove management. Ruth currently also serves on the Global Greengrants Fund Pacific Islands Advisory Board where she works with other Pacific Islands Advisors on grant-making in PNG.
