Biography
Mike Tetreault has a 40-year career working with communities, teams and organizations toward creating healthy communities, thriving nature and a livable climate. His experience ranges from ecological research and environmental education, to community-based conservation with diverse partners, to team and organizational development in local and global organizations. The animating question throughout his career has been—what are the ways and wisdom necessary for humanity to ensure that life on Earth continues to thrive?
Mike has traveled, studied and worked with teams in Europe, Africa, Latin America, North America and Asia. He began his career at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in 1998 as the Yampa River Program Manager in western Colorado, where he worked closely with landowners and community leaders to conserve this free-flowing tributary to the Colorado River and the surrounding watershed. In 2004, Mike became the State Director for TNC in Maine, working with a team of over 40 colleagues, a dedicated board of trustees and innumerable community partners to restore the State’s rivers, expand a system of ecological reserves, protect working forests and partner with the fishing fleet to evolve groundfish management and enhance the health of the Gulf of Maine and the communities who depend upon it.
In recent years, Mike has explored how best to help leaders and teams access their innate capacity for breakthrough results through greater awareness and authenticity, radical collaboration and systems thinking. He has observed that outer change happens more readily with a commitment to inner growth.
Mike now serves on TNC’s Executive Leadership Team as the Head of People, Culture and Organizational Excellence. In this capacity, he works with teams to create the conditions for our 6,000 colleagues to thrive while achieving ambitious outcomes. Mike earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Brown University, an M.S. in Field Ecology from the University of Vermont, and a certification in Executive Coaching from Integral Coaching Canada.
Mike loves to be outdoors with friends and family. He lives on the shores of a coastal lake in Maine with his wife, daughter and myriad pets and foster puppies.
