Biography
Dr. Miguel Morales is the Managing Director, Public Funding at The Nature Conservancy. He is an expert in issues related to conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in developing countries of the Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region. He leads the development of TNC’s global public funding strategy, leveraging his 30 years’ experience designing, implementing, and monitoring conservation projects, to build capacity for practitioners, TNC partners, and decision makers around the world.
During his career, Dr. Morales has worked for Fundación Moisés Bertoni, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in his native Paraguay. Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy, he worked for Conservation International (CI) for almost 17 years, where he held a number of positions including Protected Areas Management Advisor, Conservation Strategies Director, and most recently Senior Vice-President for the CI-Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the CI-Green Climate Fund (GCF) Agencies. During his tenure, Miguel helped secure close to USD 300 million in funding for conservation and climate change projects in over 30 countries around the world.
Miguel holds a master’s degree in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development and a Ph.D. in Environment & Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Sciences from the National University of Asunción.
