Biography
A native of Colombia, Mauricio Castro Schmitz is a forest engineer with a master’s in geographic information systems applied to the rural sector. He is a multilingual professional with vast experience in global land conservation and sustainable development.
Mauricio joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in 2003 and has held different positions globally. Currently, he leads TNC’s Regenerative Agriculture and Ranching (RA2) for Latin America. Mauricio has dedicated his career to conservation issues beyond forest conservation and management, devoted to contributing solutions to the conservation and agriculture crisis. He has also worked in conservation planning and strategy development and served as chairman of the International Board of Directors of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).
