Biography
Leonie Foong is a Partner and Investment Committee Member at Overlook Investments. Overlook is an Asia-focused fund that has been investing in publicly listed companies for more than three decades and generated outstanding returns by blending a strong investment process, effective business practices and ESG principles.
Leonie has more than 20 years of investing experience spanning private equity and global public markets. Prior to joining Overlook in 2015, Leonie was one of the early partners at Janchor Partners, an Asia long/short hedge fund. She also honed her investment skills having worked with two renowned but stylistically different investors—Michael Burry (Scion Capital) and Steve Mandel (Lone Pine Capital). In her earlier career, Leonie worked at Goldman Sachs and The Carlyle Group, where she was one of two pioneer investment members responsible for building out Carlyle’s private equity presence in Southeast Asia and Australia.
In Leonie’s current role, she has advised the CEOs and founders of her portfolio companies on ESG issues ranging from capital allocation to environmental policies and has effected positive change. She also serves on a working group that advises the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission on Climate Disclosure Standards and how to incorporate climate information in investment decision making.
Leonie is a member of the Investment Committee of Balliol College, Oxford and serves on the Public Shareholders Group of the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission. She additionally serves as an Advisory Member on The Nature Conservancy’s Investment Committee. Leonie graduated from Oxford University with a First-Class Honors degree and ranked top of her year in engineering, economics and management. She completed her MBA at Harvard Business School and is a Fulbright Scholar.
