Jim Attwood is a Senior Advisor at The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest and most diversified global investment firms, with $373 billion of assets under management. Between 2000 and 2017 Mr. Attwood directed Carlyle’s private equity investments in the media and telecommunications industries globally, and between 2014 and 2017 he directed the firm’s investments in the technology industry as well.
Before Carlyle, Jim served as executive vice president for strategy, development and planning at Verizon Communications, and he held the same position at GTE Corporation prior to that. He began his professional career as an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he worked in both New York and Tokyo.
Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Syniverse Technologies (Chairman), The Nielsen Company (Chairman) and The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Global Board as well as TNC’s Investment Committee. He also serves as a member of the Harvard Law School Dean’s Advisory Board, The Friends of MVY Radio Board (Chairman), the Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Board, the WNET Board of Trustees and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.
Jim received his BA in applied mathematics and his MA in statistics from Yale in 1980. In 1985, he received both his JD and MBA degrees from Harvard.
