Biography

Frank Rijsberman joined TNC in November 2024 as the new Global Head of Policy and Public Funding and member of the Executive Leadership Team. Frank brings more than 20 years of experience leading international organizations focused on sustainability and the climate crisis, along with extensive background in shaping global policy, mobilizing both public and private funding, and building strong relationships with governments. For the past eight years, he has served as the director general of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), a treaty-based multilateral organization headquartered in Seoul, Korea. Under his leadership, GGGI has become a critical partner for its 70+ Member States and partner countries, helping them develop and implement climate and sustainability plans and policies, and mobilizing more than USD 10 billion for their implementation. Prior to GGGI, Frank led the CGIAR, the world’s agricultural research for development network, and the International Water Management Institute, an international water policy research institute with headquarters in Sri Lanka. He also spent five years working with US philanthropic organizations, including Google.org and the Gates Foundation.

Frank began his career in the Netherlands, where he worked on complex policy issues related to water resource and coastal zone management, wetlands, sea-level rise, climate change and international development. He has advised numerous high-profile organizations, including the Dutch government, EU, OECD, United Nations and World Bank, and bilateral development donors.
