Biography

Daniel White has been Virginia's resident reporter, photojournalist and all-purpose storyteller for more than 20 years. He shows people what TNC is achieving, why our work matters and how their support can make all the difference in the world. He collaborates with his TNC colleagues across the state to document and report on their work, bringing those projects to life for the chapter’s supporters and other interested audiences through a variety of TNC and external channels, including magazine and online features and the annual Virginia Impact Report.

Danny enjoys the opportunity to see firsthand Virginia's conservation work in action. Sometimes that means backpedaling across a mudflat and squatting in frigid water to get a photo of an oyster reef under construction—or sprinting to keep up with tree planters or burn crews restoring pine savannas. If he makes it through a field visit with clean clothes and dry shoes, it probably wasn’t a productive day!

Danny's love of combining narrative and visuals together has created informative, engaging and award-winning stories. His biggest reward—besides the thrill of experiencing some of the most spectacular places and projects in Virginia—is the occasional feedback that a story he wrote or an image he captured inspired someone to take action—whether that’s visiting and appreciating a special place or donating to conservation.

Danny has Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in English from Clemson University and a post-graduate ABD in English literature from the University of New Mexico.
