Biography

Based in Ottawa, Canada, Daniel Morchain is TNC’s Global Director of Climate Adaptation. In his role, Daniel leads the establishment and implementation of a common adaptation vision and agenda across the organization. The global adaptation team supports TNC teams and their partners across the world to identify and implement nature-based, nature-positive solutions that reduce the impacts of climate change felt by communities and help them build their resilience. Undertaking adaptation efforts that deliver equitable and just outcomes especially to the most climate vulnerable populations is a priority for Daniel and for the organization as a whole.

Before joining TNC in early 2022, he had most recently worked with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) – NAP Global Network advising state and non-state actors in the development of National Adaptation Plans, cross-scalar governance approaches, and gender equity. Prior, he spent seven years as senior adviser on climate change adaptation and resilience with Oxfam. Daniel has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management and Policy from Lund University in Sweden, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and in Latin American Studies from Yale University. He is a native hispanophone, fluent in English, and has working knowledge of French.
