Copenhagen Hills is located in Caldwell and Catahoula Parish and includes four miles of frontage along the Ouachita River. This preserve is not open for public visitation.
1,500 acres
At this preserve you can see the globally-rare Oglethorpe oak and over 20 other plant species considered rare, threatened or endangered by the Louisiana Natural Heritage Program.
The Nature Conservancy selected this site because of its botanical importance and support of several globally-endangered habitats. This site was also selected because it supports more species of woody plants and contains fossil-rich marine sediments dating back some 38 million years.
The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana is working to restore the prairies and woodlands by prescribed burns and hand removal. The Conservancy is also working to preserve the calcareous soils which contain fossil-rich marine sediments.
