Congressional Leaders Release Farm Bill Proposals

The Nature Conservancy is encouraged by recent steps from the Agriculture Committee leadership in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to share proposals for a 2024 Farm Bill. On Wednesday, Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow unveiled a section-by-section summary of the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act, and House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn “G.T.” Thompson shared a title-by-title Farm Bill overview.

In response, The Nature Conservancy’s Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Jenny Conner Nelms issued the following statement.

“The Nature Conservancy is grateful for Chairwoman Stabenow’s work to advance critical conservation, forestry, research and renewable energy priorities in the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act. We also thank Chairman Thompson for his significant efforts to balance many priorities while upholding a commitment to conservation investments.

“We look forward to additional progress this Congress to advance a bi-partisan, bi-cameral Farm Bill that incentivizes climate-smart practices, improves water quality and quantity, maintains healthy and resilient forests and promotes equitable opportunities for all producers to access markets and programs.
