Patagonia: A Priority Conservation Landscape

Patagonian grasslands have big opportunities of recovery and conservation

The Nature Conservancy set four global challenges at the start of 2013:

  • Conserving critical lands
  • Securing access to fresh water
  • Protecting the oceans
  • Fighting the consequences of climate change

As part of this initiative, Patagonia was selected as one of the top 15 landscapes with real opportunities for large-scale protection and restoration. This means that The Nature Conservancy will deploy its full toolkit, including conservation “deal” expertise and sustainable development strategies to achieve big gains in the conservation of critical Patagonian grasslands.
