So You Want to Volunteer?

In 2015, 541 volunteers contributed 6,303 hours and helped with over 120 projects, including preserve trail monitoring, bird sign installation, invasive species control, avian monitoring, oyster restoration, and more!

The first step toward becoming a volunteer is to download the volunteer application and liability release form. The form is available in both word (for easier printing) and editable pdf formats.

On Saturday, April 1, the Virginia Chapter partnered with Fairfax County Park Authority in Northern Virginia to host the largest volunteer event TNC VA has ever had - no fooling!

The goal of the cleanup was to keep trash and debris out of waterways that flow into the Chesapeake Bay.  654 volunteers give nearly 1,600 hours of service at 9 different parks.  They collected an estimated 4.5 tons of trash - including hundreds of plastic bottles and bags, a desk, goal post, model replica of the Greek Acropolis and a $20 bill - and cleaned over 20 miles of stream and shoreline.
