We are so grateful for our volunteers. They are the backbone of our 75-mile hiking trail system. They power the restoration of our coastal marshes and salt ponds. And they help keep an eye on vulnerable shorebirds at one of Rhode Island’s most spectacular beaches.
Ready to volunteer with The Nature Conservancy?
Let’s get started! Use the Volunteer Information Form to tell us about your interests and let us know the best way to reach you.
The Nature Conservancy is actively recruiting volunteers in several areas:
Preserve Monitoring: Volunteering can be as easy as taking a walk in the woods! Stop by your favorite Conservancy preserve once a month to check the trails and report any problems. Your feedback will help us keep the Conservancy’s nature preserves in top shape, for everyone's enjoyment. If you have some experience with loppers and other hand tools, consider adopting a trail as a Trail Steward.
Volunteer Workdays: Like working with a group? Join the Conservancy's Preserve Managers and Scientists for a half-day in the field. Current projects include maintaining hiking trails, building footbridges, removing invasive plants, bagging oyster shells, re-planting salt marshes, and much more.
Shorebird Protection and Education (May - August): Let visitors know about the rare shorebirds that nest at Goosewing Beach Preserve in Little Compton. Help our staff keep track of nesting adult birds and their young chicks, and remove trash that can attract predators. No experience necessary, training provided.
