2017 Grant Recipients
Indonesia: Bird’s Head Seascape Project $500,000
In Indonesia, the CGCF is helping protect the Bird’s Head Seascape. This mosaic of marine protected areas covers more than 3.6 million hectares, and the initiative ensures the MPAs are effectively co-managed by communities and government to maintain the health of this unique ecosystem.
Global Tuna Program $400,000
In the Pacific, CGCF is helping to fund our innovative tuna work. We are partnering with Indo-Pacific nations and fishing companies to dramatically improve the environmental performance of tuna fisheries by demonstrating sustainable fishing practices, deploying electronic monitoring to prevent illegal fishing and showing how local resource owners — not just distant fishing nations — can better benefit from the fishery.
Unleashing Investment in Oceans $300,000
The CGCF is helping island nations with debt conversions that will protect their oceans and fisheries as well as provide funding for marine conservation and climate change adaptation.
Indonesia Green Growth Project $100,000
To reduce deforestation and emissions in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, the Conservancy brought together 19 public and private parties to agree to a new Green Growth Compact, which will reduce emissions and increase economic growth by eight percent by 2030. This project is supported by CGCF.

The Northern Rangelands Trust is receiving contributions from CGCF and has built a robust network of 33 community conservancies across 10.8 million acres of vibrant wildlife habitat in northern Kenya, benefitting 480,000 people.
