Nationwide Survey Finds Nature Conservancy One of the Most Trusted Organizations

Harris Interactive® finds 76 percent of those familiar with The Nature Conservancy trust the organization

In a survey conducted last month, Harris Interactive®, a worldwide market research company, found The American Red Cross and The Nature Conservancy to be the top two most trusted organizations among 12 leading nonprofit organizations, think tanks and associations. According to Harris, 76 percent of those familiar with the Conservancy said they trusted the organization.

In a news release announcing the results of the survey, Harris said, “The American Red Cross and The Nature Conservancy receive very high marks for being trusted.”

According to the Harris survey, 38 percent of Americans say they are familiar with The Nature Conservancy.

“The Conservancy’s deep commitment to accountability and transparency is reflected in these findings, I believe,” said Begoña Vázquez-Santos, the Conservancy’s Director of Membership. “We’re increasingly focused on using multiple channels to communicate with new and existing supporters, to show them how their involvement is helping to find effective solutions and expand the scope and scale of conservation on local and global levels.”

This Harris Poll ® was conducted online within the United States December 7 and 14, 2009 among 2,276 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.
